How the SAT Score Calculator Works
The SAT reports a Reading and Writing score and a Math score. Each section is scored from 200 to 800, and the two section scores are added to create a total from 400 to 1600.
SAT total score = Reading and Writing section score + Math section score
For example, a 650 Reading and Writing score plus a 620 Math score equals a 1270 total. This arithmetic is exact when both inputs are official scaled scores.
Why Correct Answers Alone Cannot Predict a Digital SAT Score
The digital SAT uses a multistage adaptive design. Reading and Writing and Math are each divided into two modules. Performance in the first module helps determine the mix of question difficulty in the second module.
College Board also uses Item Response Theory. A section score reflects factors including which questions were answered correctly, their difficulty and the answer pattern. College Board states that two students answering the same number of questions correctly may receive different section scores.
E-E-A-T scoring rule: A universal “questions correct to scaled score” table would create false precision for the adaptive digital SAT. Use Bluebook for official adaptive practice scores or the specific scoring guide supplied with a nonadaptive paper practice test.

Understanding Score Reports, Ranges and Percentiles
An official SAT score report contains the total, both section scores, a score range and percentile information. The score range indicates how a score might vary across another administration under identical conditions. A percentile compares the score with a defined group of students.
Percentile tables can change with the comparison population and reporting year, so this calculator deliberately does not convert a total into a fixed percentile. Use the percentile shown on the current official report.
