Monthly installment estimate Pay in 4 breakdown Purchase-limit scenario

People searching for an Affirm calculator usually want to know what a purchase may cost after a down payment, APR and repayment term. This independent tool applies standard installment math only to the values you enter. It cannot retrieve an Affirm offer, purchasing power, account, eligibility decision or merchant-specific promotion.

What Is an Affirm Calculator?

An Affirm calculator is a payment-planning tool for a purchase that may be split over time. It can estimate a monthly installment from an entered purchase amount, down payment, APR and term. It can also illustrate a four-payment, zero-interest split or estimate a pre-tax purchase amount from a target monthly payment.

This page is not an application or checkout system. Only the offer shown by Affirm or its lending partner at checkout establishes the available plan, rate, down payment, payment dates and final cost.

How the Monthly Affirm Payment Estimate Works

The calculator first adds estimated sales tax and shipping to the pre-tax purchase price. It subtracts the entered upfront down payment to find the amount financed. For a monthly plan, it then applies a standard amortizing-installment formula:

Monthly payment = P x r x (1 + r)n / ((1 + r)n - 1)

Here, P is the financed amount, r is APR divided by 12 and 100, and n is the number of monthly installments. At 0% APR, payment equals P divided by n.

The model applies interest to the declining balance. It does not add lender fees, merchant discounts, refunds, payment rescheduling, bank charges or a different checkout calculation.

Monthly Plan, Pay in 4 and Purchase Limit

Monthly plan

Enter a price, upfront payment, APR and term to estimate a monthly installment, finance charge and total paid.

Pay in 4

Splits the purchase total into four equal 0% APR payments, with one due now and three future payments about two weeks apart.

Purchase limit

Works backward from a target monthly payment. It is a mathematical scenario, not an eligibility or purchasing-power result.

Worked Affirm Payment Example

Affirm's official U.S. disclosures include an example of a USD 400 purchase with USD 80 down and 12 monthly payments of approximately USD 28.88 at 15% APR. Using those values:

USD 400 purchase, USD 80 down, 15% APR, 12 months

Amount financed
USD 320.00
Estimated monthly payment
USD 28.88
Total of 12 monthly payments
USD 346.59
Estimated finance charge
USD 26.59
Total including down payment
USD 426.59

Rounding at the payment or final-installment level can produce a small difference from an actual disclosure.

How APR Changes the Same Purchase

The table keeps the USD 320 financed amount and 12-month term unchanged. It demonstrates why the APR must be taken from the actual offer rather than guessed.

APR assumptionMonthly paymentFinance chargeTotal including USD 80 down
0%USD 26.67USD 0.00USD 400.00
15%USD 28.88USD 26.59USD 426.59
36%USD 32.15USD 65.77USD 465.77

Understanding Affirm Pay in 4

Current official Affirm disclosures describe Pay in 4 as a 0% APR option. A USD 400 purchase would be four USD 100 payments. The first payment is generally due at checkout, with three more payments at roughly two-week intervals, completing the schedule in about six weeks.

Do not treat Pay in 4 as free spending. It is still a repayment obligation. Track every active installment across providers and confirm that each due date fits alongside rent, utilities, card payments and other essentials.

Fees, Late Payments and Bank Charges

Affirm currently states that it does not charge late fees and describes its U.S. payment products as having no hidden fees or compounding interest. That does not prevent a bank or card issuer from charging an overdraft, returned-payment or insufficient-funds fee if an automatic payment cannot be covered.

A missed obligation can also affect future access, collections activity or credit reporting depending on the product and circumstances. Review the specific loan agreement before accepting a plan.

Can Buy Now, Pay Later Affect Credit?

Credit treatment can vary. CFPB consumer guidance explains that many four-payment products generally have not reported routine payment history to the major credit bureaus, while some larger or longer installment loans may use hard inquiries and report payment history. An unpaid account sent to collections may also affect credit.

Because reporting practices and products can change, use the disclosures shown for the exact plan rather than assuming every Affirm option works the same way.

Avoid BNPL Loan Stacking

A January 2025 CFPB study using 2022 data found that more than three-fifths of BNPL borrowers held multiple simultaneous BNPL loans at some point during the year. Separate small payments can look manageable while their combined weekly or monthly demand becomes difficult.

  • Add every BNPL installment to one calendar or budget.
  • Compare the total repayment, not only the advertised payment.
  • Leave room for essentials and unexpected expenses.
  • Avoid using a new plan to solve a cash shortage created by existing plans.
  • Review return and refund timing before purchasing.

How to Use This Calculator Responsibly

  1. Enter the same purchase price, tax, shipping and down payment shown at checkout.
  2. Use the actual APR and term offered to you rather than the example defaults.
  3. Compare the scheduled payment with your after-tax budget and all existing debt payments.
  4. Check the finance charge and total paid, not just the installment size.
  5. Read the loan agreement, payment dates, refund process and autopay method before accepting.

Affirm Calculator FAQs

Is this the official Affirm calculator?

No. This is an independent educational calculator produced by 1Dollars. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by Affirm, and it cannot access an account, offer, eligibility decision or purchasing-power amount.

What APR range does Affirm currently advertise in the United States?

Official Affirm U.S. pages currently describe rates from 0% to 36% APR based on credit and eligibility. The available rate, term and payment option can vary by merchant and purchase.

How does Affirm Pay in 4 work?

Affirm currently describes Pay in 4 as four interest-free payments at 0% APR. One payment is generally due at checkout and the remaining three are paid at roughly two-week intervals.

How does this calculator estimate a monthly payment?

It adds entered tax and shipping to the purchase price, subtracts the upfront down payment and applies a standard amortizing-payment formula to the remaining amount using the entered APR and monthly term.

Can Affirm require a down payment?

Yes. Official Affirm disclosures state that a down payment may be required. The amount depends on the actual purchase and offer, so use the value shown at checkout.

Does Affirm charge late fees?

Affirm currently states that it does not charge late fees. A bank or card issuer may still charge overdraft, insufficient-funds or returned-payment fees, and other consequences can follow an unpaid obligation.

Can an Affirm or BNPL plan affect credit?

Credit checks and reporting can vary by product. CFPB guidance says many pay-in-four products generally have not reported routine payment history, while some larger or longer loans may use hard inquiries or report payments. Collections may also affect credit.

Why might my checkout payment differ from this estimate?

The actual offer may use a different eligible amount, APR, term, down payment, tax, shipping, rounding method, merchant promotion or payment schedule. The checkout disclosure and loan agreement control.

Does purchase-limit mode show my Affirm purchasing power?

No. It only solves a mathematical present-value scenario from the target payment, APR, term and costs entered. It does not check eligibility, credit, merchant rules or an Affirm account.

Does this calculator guarantee Affirm approval?

No. A payment estimate cannot guarantee eligibility, approval, purchasing power, an APR, a term or a merchant option. Only the provider's application and checkout process can determine an actual offer.

Methodology, Sources and Editorial Review

The monthly mode uses a standard declining-balance installment formula. Pay in 4 divides the entered purchase total into four equal payments at 0% APR. Purchase-limit mode solves the present value of the entered target payment and then adjusts for the entered upfront payment, sales tax and shipping. Calculations run locally in the browser and do not request an Affirm login, Social Security number, bank account or credit report.
