Free Silver Price per Gram Calculator

Convert a silver price per troy ounce, kilogram, 100 grams, 10 grams or other unit into comparable per-gram rates. See 999 fine, 990, 970, 958, 925 sterling, 900, 835 and 800 silver prices in your selected currency.

Silver Rate per Gram Converter

Enter a current silver quote, its unit and purity basis. The default market basis treats the quote as one troy ounce of 999 silver, consistent with the wholesale silver convention.

A precious-metals ounce is normally a troy ounce. Choose regular ounce only when the source explicitly uses it.
Positive adds a premium; negative applies a discount. Use 0 for direct conversion.

This calculator does not fetch or redistribute a live silver benchmark. Results exclude fabrication, mint premium, delivery, tax and dealer spread unless represented by the single adjustment percentage.

Reviewed on 15 July 2026 using NIST weight conversions, Bureau of Indian Standards and UK hallmarking guidance, and LBMA silver-market conventions.

A silver price per gram makes rates quoted in troy ounces, kilograms and regional weight units easier to compare. This calculator normalizes the entered quote for its purity basis, converts it to grams, and derives standard fineness rates without claiming to supply today's live silver price.

Quick answer: enter a current silver quote, select its weight unit and fineness basis, choose the desired output purity and currency, then calculate. The results include 999, 925 sterling and six other common per-gram rates.

Silver Price per Gram Formula

First divide the entered quote by the number of grams in its unit. Then normalize for the source fineness and multiply by the desired fineness.

Target price per gram = entered price / grams in quote unit × target purity / source purity
Adjusted rate = target price per gram × (1 + premium or discount %)

Purity percentages must use the same scale. For example, 999 is 99.9% and 925 is 92.5%.

Silver Price per Troy Ounce to Per Gram

NIST gives one troy ounce as exactly 31.1034768 grams. For a quote already expressed for 999 silver and a 999 output rate:

999 silver price per gram = 999 price per troy ounce / 31.1034768

No extra 999 multiplier is needed when the source and target fineness match. The purity ratio is 999/999, which equals one.

Silver and Gold Use Different Market Conventions

LBMA explains that gold is quoted per fine troy ounce, while silver is quoted per troy ounce of material meeting a minimum 999 fineness. Therefore, the calculator defaults to a 999 silver market quote—not a theoretical 100% pure-silver quote.

If your source explicitly gives a theoretical pure-silver rate, select 100%. If it gives a direct 925 sterling price, select 925 so the target conversion does not apply purity twice.

Check the source label: the selected quote unit and source fineness must match the price you enter. A wrong basis can create a systematic conversion error.

999 Silver Price per Gram

For a 999 quote, divide the amount by its gram-equivalent unit. Common conversions are:

  • Per troy ounce: divide by 31.1034768
  • Per kilogram: divide by 1,000
  • Per 100 grams: divide by 100
  • Per 10 grams: divide by 10

The calculator also supports a regular avoirdupois ounce and pound, but these should be chosen only when the source explicitly uses everyday weight units.

925 Sterling Silver Price per Gram

To estimate a 925 rate from a 999 rate, multiply by the purity ratio:

925 rate per gram = 999 rate per gram × 925 / 999

This estimates silver-content value only. A finished sterling item can sell above or below this rate because of manufacturing, design, brand, condition, tax, dealer spread and demand.

Worked Silver Price per Gram Example

Assume an illustrative USD 35 price per troy ounce of 999 silver with no premium or discount:

  • 999 price per gram = USD 35 / 31.1034768 = about USD 1.125276
  • 925 price per gram = USD 1.125276 × 925 / 999 = about USD 1.041922
  • 900 price per gram = about USD 1.013762
  • 800 price per gram = about USD 0.901122

USD 35 is a round worked input, not a current silver quote.

Premium or Discount Adjustment

The optional adjustment applies one percentage after unit and purity conversion. Use a positive value for a premium and a negative value for a discount.

5% premium: converted rate × 1.05   |   4% discount: converted rate × 0.96

This field does not separately calculate tax, fabrication, shipping, assay cost or dealer spread. Avoid adding a charge that is already included in the source price.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert silver price per ounce to per gram?
For the same purity, divide the price per troy ounce by 31.1034768. If source and target purities differ, multiply by target purity divided by source purity.
How many grams are in a troy ounce of silver?
One troy ounce equals exactly 31.1034768 grams according to NIST conversion tables.
How is 999 silver price per gram calculated?
Divide a 999 price by the grams in its quoted unit. For a per-troy-ounce 999 quote, divide by 31.1034768.
How do I calculate 925 silver price per gram from 999?
Multiply the 999 per-gram rate by 925/999. This adjusts for the difference between 92.5% and 99.9% silver.
Does this calculator show today's live silver rate?
No. Enter a current rate from a source you are permitted to use. The tool performs unit, fineness and adjustment calculations only.
Is a silver ounce the same as a regular ounce?
No. Precious-metal silver quotes normally use the 31.1034768-gram troy ounce. A regular avoirdupois ounce is 28.349523125 grams.
How do I convert silver price per kilogram to per gram?
For the same purity, divide the kilogram price by 1,000. Select per kilogram and the calculator will also derive other fineness rates.
Can I enter a direct 925 sterling price?
Yes. Select 925 sterling as the entered-price basis. If the target is also 925, only the weight-unit and optional adjustment conversions apply.
What does the premium or discount field do?
It increases or decreases every converted fineness rate by one percentage. It does not separately itemize taxes, fabrication, delivery or other charges.
Is the calculated silver price per gram guaranteed?
No. It depends on the entered price, timestamp, currency, unit, purity and adjustment. Transaction quotes can differ because of product, market and dealer terms.
