Free Silver Price per Ounce Calculator

Convert silver prices between troy ounces, grams, kilograms, regular ounces and pounds. The calculator also converts 999 market quotes into 925 sterling and other fineness-specific ounce rates.

Silver Troy Ounce Price Converter

Enter a silver rate in any supported unit. Results clearly separate the precious-metals troy ounce from the lighter regular avoirdupois ounce.

Choose the exact unit printed by the price source. Troy and regular ounces are not interchangeable.
Positive adds a premium; negative applies a discount. Use 0 for direct conversion.

This calculator does not fetch or redistribute a live silver benchmark. Results exclude fabrication, mint premium, tax, delivery and dealer spread unless represented by the adjustment percentage.

Reviewed on 15 July 2026 using NIST weight tables, Bureau of Indian Standards hallmarking guidance and LBMA silver-market conventions.

A silver price per ounce normally refers to a troy ounce, not the regular ounce used for many household goods. This calculator converts rates across both ounce systems, grams, kilograms and pounds while preserving the source and target fineness you select.

Quick answer: enter a current silver rate, choose its exact unit and fineness, then select the desired output fineness. The main result is price per troy ounce, with regular-ounce, gram, kilogram and pound equivalents.

Silver Price per Troy Ounce Formula

The calculator converts the source quote to a per-gram rate, normalizes its purity, applies the output purity and then multiplies by troy-ounce grams.

Target price per troy ounce = entered price / source-unit grams × target purity / source purity × 31.1034768
Adjusted ounce rate = target ounce rate × (1 + premium or discount %)

Troy Ounce vs Regular Ounce

Troy ounce (ozt)Exactly 31.1034768 grams. This is the normal precious-metals price unit.
Regular ounce (oz)Exactly 28.349523125 grams. Also called an avoirdupois ounce.
Size differenceA regular ounce is about 91.1458% of a troy ounce by weight.
Price effectAt one rate per gram, the regular-ounce amount is lower because it represents less silver.
Regular-ounce price = troy-ounce price × 28.349523125 / 31.1034768
Do not mix labels: “oz” can be ambiguous. Check whether the source means troy ounce, regular ounce or fluid ounce. Fluid ounces measure volume and are not supported here.

Silver Price per Gram to Per Ounce

For the same purity, multiply a per-gram rate by 31.1034768 to obtain the troy-ounce rate:

Silver price per troy ounce = silver price per gram × 31.1034768

If the source price is for 925 and the target is 999, the calculator also multiplies by 999/925. Select the correct source fineness rather than adjusting the rate manually twice.

Silver Price per Kilogram to Per Ounce

One kilogram is 1,000 grams. For the same purity:

Price per troy ounce = price per kilogram / 1,000 × 31.1034768

Conversely, price per kilogram equals the troy-ounce price divided by 31.1034768 and multiplied by 1,000.

Regular Pound vs Troy Pound

UnitOunces in systemGrams used
Regular avoirdupois pound16 regular ounces453.59237 g
Troy pound12 troy ounces373.2417216 g

A regular pound is heavier than a troy pound even though a single troy ounce is heavier than a single regular ounce. The calculator labels both pound systems explicitly.

999 Silver Price per Ounce

LBMA's market convention expresses silver in US dollars per troy ounce of material with minimum 999 fineness. Therefore, the default source and target purity is 999. If a 999 price is already per troy ounce, direct conversion with no adjustment returns the same amount.

925 Sterling Silver Price per Ounce

To estimate the silver-content rate for a 925 item from a 999 quote:

925 rate per troy ounce = 999 rate per troy ounce × 925 / 999

This is a metal-content conversion, not a retail jewellery price. Finished sterling products can include design, labour, tax and seller margin.

Worked Silver Ounce Conversion Example

Assume an illustrative USD 35 price per troy ounce of 999 silver, with no premium or discount:

  • 999 price per gram = about USD 1.125276
  • 999 price per regular ounce = about USD 31.90
  • 999 price per kilogram = about USD 1,125.28
  • 999 price per regular pound = about USD 510.42
  • 999 price per troy pound = USD 420.00
  • 925 price per troy ounce = about USD 32.41

USD 35 is a worked input, not today's silver price.

Premium or Discount

The optional field applies one percentage after unit and purity conversion. It is useful for a single quoted premium or discount, but it does not separately calculate fabrication, tax, shipping, insurance or dealer spread.

Avoid applying a premium already included in the entered product price.
